On 16 June 2026, the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, held a ceremony to pass on the seed of the future, “Hom Malai Man Rice: From Research to Farmers”, at the rice test plots of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom Province, presided over by Ms. Arocha Nanthamontri, Governor of Nakhon Pathom, together with Kasetsart University executives, faculty, researchers, model farmers and network agencies attending in full.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchai Pinyopummin, D.V.M., Vice President of Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, welcomed the Governor of Nakhon Pathom and distinguished guests and spoke of Kasetsart University's role in building knowledge, research and agricultural innovation to support the development of the country's agricultural sector and in putting research results to real use with farmers and communities.
Also attending in large numbers were Kasetsart University executives, heads of Nakhon Pathom provincial government agencies, and representatives of public and private organizations, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukanya Rattanatubtimthong, Assistant President for Research, Academic Services and International Relations, Kamphaeng Saen Campus; Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatchamas Kanchanaudomkarn, Director of the Tropical Vegetable Research and Development Center and Deputy Director of the Kamphaeng Saen Extension and Training Office; Mr. Ukrit Manoochantrat, Director of the Kamphaeng Saen Campus Office; as well as executives, faculty and department heads from the various faculties of Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus.
On this occasion, Mrs. Rungrattana Chamsing, Deputy Director of the Kamphaeng Saen Extension and Training Office, kindly served as master of ceremonies, creating a warm and formal atmosphere throughout the ceremony.
The event aims to transfer research results and deliver “Hom Malai Man rice” seed to model farmers, an important step in driving high-quality rice production in Nakhon Pathom Province and creating a new option for Thai farmers under the concept “Together Building the Future of Nakhon Pathom Rice”.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, said that Hom Malai Man is the success of the Rice Science Center's rice breeding research and development, which took more than 16 years of continuous selection and improvement to obtain a line with outstanding quality in natural aroma, slender grains, good cooking quality and an average yield as high as 814 kilograms per rai.
“Hom Malai Man is an example of bringing scientific knowledge to benefit the agricultural sector concretely. We hope this rice variety will be a new option for farmers, increase competitiveness, and add value to Thai rice in the future,” the Director of the Rice Science Center said.
On this occasion, Ms. Arocha Nanthamontri, Governor of Nakhon Pathom, presiding over the ceremony, outlined her vision for agricultural development of Nakhon Pathom, saying the province aims to promote high-quality agricultural products that meet market demand together with raising farmers' income and quality of life, emphasizing the application of research, technology and innovation in production to increase efficiency, reduce costs and add value to agricultural produce.
The Governor of Nakhon Pathom added that “Hom Malai Man rice” is another important hope for Nakhon Pathom farmers, reflecting cooperation among the government, educational institutions and the public in creating quality rice with an area-specific identity, which can be extended into product development, branding, and links to markets at home and abroad, strengthening the economic security of the community and province in the long term.
The event included the symbolic “Future Seed Rice Harvest Ceremony”, in which the Governor of Nakhon Pathom, the Vice President of the Kamphaeng Saen Campus, university executives and representatives of Nakhon Pathom model farmers jointly harvested Hom Malai Man rice from the model plot and displayed the panicles in the “Basket of Future Seeds”, to reflect cooperation among the government, educational institutions and farmers in developing quality rice for Nakhon Pathom Province.
A ceremony then followed to hand over Hom Malai Man rice seed to model farmers to expand production in real areas, and a symbolic activity, “Together Building the Future of Nakhon Pathom Rice”, through signing on the Future Board, underlining the shared intention to develop the province's agricultural sector together.
In addition, participants took part in a tasting of Hom Malai Man rice compared with rice lines in the same quality fragrant-rice group, to reflect its eating quality, taste, softness and aroma, the outstanding features of Hom Malai Man, and to show opportunities for commercial development in the future.
This handover of “Hom Malai Man rice” seed is another important step in linking research to real use in agriculture, creating new opportunities for farmers, increasing competitiveness, and jointly driving the future of Thai rice with innovation and knowledge from Kasetsart University sustainably.
