Rice Department and Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, Discuss “Carbon Farming” to Raise Thai Rice Production to Sustainability On 27 January 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwarate Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, Prof. Dr. Poonpipope Kasemsap, Dr. Theerayut Toojinda, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Savitri Rattanasumawong, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nongnuch Siriwong, Dr. Siriphat Ruengphayak and researchers from Kasetsart University, together with Dr. Pakorn Petchprayoon, spokesperson and Director of the Geoinformatics Innovation Development Office of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization), or GISTDA,

and a research team from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), met Mr. Anon Nonsi, Director-General of the Rice Department, on the occasion of the 2026 New Year, and discussed ways to cooperate on research and the breeding of Thai rice, to raise the country's rice development to sustainable progress.

This meeting was a forum for academic exchange and integrated cooperation among the agencies concerned, focusing on developing Thai rice varieties with high potential in being environmentally friendly, low-carbon rice, yield, quality, tolerance to environmental conditions and competitiveness, as well as applying knowledge, science, technology and innovation systematically to develop Thai rice.

The discussion was an important step in strengthening cooperation among the Rice Department, educational institutions and research agencies, to jointly drive Thai rice breeding toward concrete results and to support the long-term security and sustainability of Thailand's agricultural sector.
