International Seminar Draws Overwhelming Interest, with Registrants from More Than 707 Organizations in 34 Countries Worldwide

On 17 June 2026, 14:00–16:00, the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, together with Hub of Rice and KU Reinventing, held the special seminar “The CGIAR Genome Editing Initiative” at the Tan King Meeting Room, National Agricultural Extension and Training Center, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom Province.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, kindly opened the event and welcomed experts and speakers from leading CGIAR research organizations, namely IRRI, CIMMYT, CIP, IITA, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and IFPRI, who came to share experience and views on advances in genome editing technology and its important role in plant breeding.

The seminar was held under the CGIAR–NARES South–South Community of Practice (CoP) on Plant Genome Editing, to promote knowledge exchange, build cooperation networks and develop capability in modern plant breeding. The event drew wide interest, with a total of 1,000 registrants, 957 attending online and 43 on site, representing more than 707 organizations in 34 countries worldwide, reflecting international awareness of using modern technology to meet food security and climate change challenges.

After the seminar, the speakers visited the Rice Science Center's laboratories and research infrastructure to exchange knowledge on genomics, rice breeding with molecular markers, selection using genetic data, and applying modern biotechnology to develop rice varieties of high quality, tolerant of the environment, and meeting the future needs of farmers and consumers.

This event reflects the outstanding image and role of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, as Thailand's center for rice research and innovation, committed to linking international research networks and driving modern knowledge and technology toward sustainable agricultural development, to further strengthen food security for the country and the region.

On June 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Rice Science Center at Kasetsart University, in collaboration with the Hub of Rice, hosted a special seminar titled “The CGIAR Genome Editing Initiative” at the Tarn-King Meeting Room, National Agricultural Extension and Training Center, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom.

On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center at Kasetsart University, delivered the opening remarks and warmly welcomed a delegation of experts and speakers from leading CGIAR research organizations, including IRRI, CIMMYT, CIP, IITA, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and IFPRI. These distinguished speakers shared their experiences and perspectives on the advancements in genome editing technology and its crucial role in the future of crop breeding.

Organized under the framework of the CGIAR–NARES South–South Community of Practice (CoP) on Plant Genome Editing, the seminar aimed to promote knowledge exchange, build collaborative networks, and enhance capacity building in modern crop breeding. The event garnered widespread international interest, registering a total of 1,000 participants—comprising 957 online attendees and 43 onsite participants. These attendees represented over 707 organizations across 34 countries, reflecting a strong global commitment to utilizing modern technology to address the challenges of food security and climate change.

Following the seminar, the delegation of speakers visited the laboratories and research infrastructure of the Rice Science Center. The visit facilitated in-depth knowledge exchange on genomics, marker-assisted breeding, genomic selection, and the application of modern biotechnology in developing high-quality, climate-resilient rice varieties that meet the future needs of farmers and consumers.

This successful event highlights the prominent role of the Rice Science Center at Kasetsart University as Thailand’s premier hub for rice research and innovation. It underscores the Center's dedication to connecting international research networks and driving forward modern knowledge and technology towards sustainable agricultural development, ultimately strengthening food security for both the nation and the region.
