President ZHU YOU YONG met with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichart Vanavichit, Director of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, in the international guest reception room, where they held cordial talks. The participants in this meeting were President ZHU YOU YONG with the participants LI YONG MEI, Director of the International Exchange Office LI CHENG YUN, Head of the National Engineering Research Center TAN XUE LIN, Director of Rice Production CHEN LI JUAN, Deputy Director of Rice Production HE XIA HONG, Deputy Secretary of the Plant Protection Institute
During the talks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichart presented that the University of Hohenheim runs the project “Cooperation Project for Developing Higher Education and Human Resources”, supported by the FSC and DAAD organizations with funding of 500 million euros, with the aim of promoting global food security through communication and cooperation. He is the coordinator of this project and hoped that Yunnan Agricultural University would join it, and bring its research on many kinds of living things, promoting rice safety, hybrid maize cultivation and animal husbandry, and spread the research results in Thailand and across Southeast Asian countries, increasing rice production and farmers' incomes in the area. He also hoped for exchange in higher education, between teachers and students, and between countries, training courses, projects and so on, among Yunnan Agricultural University, Kasetsart University and the University of Hohenheim.
During the talks, President ZHU YOU YONG said that the “Cooperation Project for Developing Higher Education and Human Resources” is very good and useful for developing students' abilities, for academic exchange among teachers, and for spreading modern technology from Yunnan Agricultural University. The university therefore agreed to join the project and is very interested. He hoped that Yunnan Agricultural University would join and expand the project, and be able to spread modern techniques for increasing rice production across ASEAN, to raise farmers' incomes and maintain regional food security. Before this meeting, Vice President CHENG WEN CHANG had already met Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichart.
