The Director of the Rice Science Center joined a panel at "New Varieties, New Technology, New Opportunities for Thai Rice", a major seminar held by EASYRICE Digital Technology Co., Ltd., together with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), on its 5th anniversary, to update the direction of future rice varieties, survey market demand, and drive the Thai rice industry with technology and innovation.
On Wednesday 22 July 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, KU, presented rice variety innovations that answer both farmers and consumers: Hom Malai Man rice: premium soft fragrant rice, outstanding in natural aroma, with a yield as high as 814 kilograms/rai. Water-saving rice (PINKASET+5#4E01): a line developed with low stomatal density, reducing water use, tolerant of drought and flooding, and resistant to disease and insects. Specialty Rice & 3G rice: developing nutrition rice for specific groups, such as rice for health, and innovation
and DNA technology for export: using marker technology and KASP SNPline to test the purity of "Thai Hom Mali rice" at the gene level, to prevent adulteration and maintain export standards. This is another important step showing that variety innovation and #DNATechnology are keys to the #ThaiRiceIndustry.
