The Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University (RSC), led by Prof. Dr. Apichart Vanavichit and team, brought cutting-edge inventions to exhibit to raise Thailand's agriculture and food industry.
On 27 August 2026, the Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Intellectual Property, together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), officially opened the major event “IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026: From Innovation to Income” at Hall 8, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, focusing on linking research and intellectual property to business to create income for Thai people.
🌾 “The Whole Rice Plant Is Edible”, an innovation transforming agriculture, presented “Innovative Rainbow Rice”, a new concept called “Whole-Plant Edible Rice”, shifting the view from consuming only the “rice grain” to raising the “rice leaf” into a high-value functional ingredient.
The outstanding innovation “Rainbow Rice 02” turns rice leaves, once seen as waste, into a top source of nutrition, with these features:
A top anti-aging compound: The leaves are rich in anthocyanins (C3G+C3R) and fisetin, a high-potency flavonoid with high antioxidant activity, helping clear senescent cells (zombie cells) and slow age-related decline.
Packed nutrition: Dietary fibre as high as 75% and protein as high as 20–22%, containing all 9 essential amino acids.
Off-the-charts antioxidant value: An antioxidant value (ORAC) as high as 90,000 uMOL TE, 2 times that of bran of the same variety.
Excellent mineral absorption: A mineral-rich ingredient with iron, magnesium and manganese and low phytate, so the body can fully absorb and use the minerals.
🌍 Creating multi-dimensional value that answers the BCG Model
Developing "Innovative Rainbow Rice" not only creates health products such as protein extract, rice leaf tea or probiotics, but also creates complete value:
Health: Food ingredients with high dietary fiber, protein and bioactive compounds.
Economy: New income for farmers from selling rice leaves, supporting economy of scale.
Environment: Moving toward Zero Waste, reducing rice stubble burning, an important cause of the PM 2.5 dust problem.
Society: Building on Rainbow Rice Art in areas such as Phayao, Chiang Rai and Nakhon Pathom, creating a new selling point for agro-tourism.
Entrepreneurs, investors and interested members of the public are invited
to see and experience the potential of “Innovative Rainbow Rice” and other research from the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, at “IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026” on 27–29 August 2026 at Hall 8, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. Come and push "rice eaten for its grain" toward "rice that creates value from the whole plant", for the sustainability of the Thai economy!
Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University Showcases "Innovative Rainbow Rice" at IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026
The Ministry of Commerce and MHESI have officially launched "IP x Venture Rise Thailand 2026: From Innovation to Income" at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani to bridge the gap between research and commercial business.
A major highlight of the event is the exhibition by the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, led by Prof. Dr. Apichart Vanavichit. They are showcasing a groundbreaking agricultural innovation called "Innovative Rainbow Rice".
This project introduces the "Whole-Plant Edible Rice" concept, transforming rice leaves—traditionally seen as agricultural waste—into high-value functional ingredients. These colorful leaves are packed with up to 20-22% protein, high dietary fiber, and powerful antioxidants like Fisetin and Anthocyanins. Not only does this promote better health and generate new income for farmers, but it also drives a Zero Waste (BCG) model by reducing PM 2.5 pollution from stubble burning.
Visitors are welcome to explore this remarkable innovation at Hall 8, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, from August 27 - 29, 2026.
