Rice Contest Project to Support the Trade of Khao Dawk Mali 105 and High-Quality Organic Riceberry Rice, Sustainably
At a time of a severe slump in the price of Thai rice in both domestic and foreign markets, all parties are rushing to find solutions, short-term and long-term, so that farmers can get through this crisis. The Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus, has found one approach to help develop Thai rice price structures appropriately and sustainably: building a standard of value for Thai rice's unique qualities, such as aroma, as one way of raising the price of Thai products to truly premium level, avoiding competition from Thailand's trade rivals. A rice contest was therefore organized to support the trade of Khao Dawk Mali 105 and high-quality organic Riceberry rice sustainably, as a starting point for skilled farmers who grow high-quality rice to have the chance to sell their rice at a suitable price.
