Thailand's knowledge hub for rice science and research and the Rice Science Center, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, and Prof. Dr. Apichart Vanavichit, Senior Advisor to the Rice Science Center, presented their research on nutritional-therapy food for non-communicable diseases in the elderly to the public at Thailand Inventors' Day 2026, the 27th edition, held on 5–9 January 2026 at Event Hall 100–104, BITEC Bangna Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok.
This research is the result of cooperation among the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University; the Kasetsart Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Product Improvement Institute; the Institute of Food Research and Product Development, Kasetsart University; and the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. It was honored by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) as research and innovation that answers the country's needs, at NRCT FORUM 2025 on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the founding of NRCT.
Thailand Inventors' Day 2026 was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation through the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), as the central agency for research and invention, together with government agencies, the private sector, educational institutions and research and invention organizations at home and abroad, under the concept
“Unlock Thailand – Power of Invention and Innovation”
The event commemorates the historic day on which the invention patent for the “Chaipattana Water Turbine” was presented to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, “Father of Thai Inventions”. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Surasak Phancharoenworakul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presided over the ceremony and gave the keynote address, and Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Director of the National Research Council of Thailand, reported on the objectives of the event.
In addition, senior executives attended in full force, including Prof. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; Prof. Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Chairman of the Science, Research and Innovation Promotion Committee; Emeritus Prof. Dr. Suttiporn Chittmittrapap, Chairman of the Committee on the Science, Research and Innovation Budget for fiscal year 2026; as well as many agency executives, researchers and distinguished guests from many sectors.
This presentation of the Rice Science Center's research is another important step in pushing forward knowledge and innovation in health food to support an aging society, and reflects the role of Thai research in answering the needs of sustainable national development.
