Fragrant rice with a low glycemic index and high iron

Sinlek rice was obtained by crossing Hom Nin non-glutinous rice with Khao Dawk Mali 105. It is a white rice with aroma, slender grains, photoperiod insensitivity, can be grown all year round, and is resistant to blast. Sinlek, a soft fragrant rice with a low-to-medium glycemic index, was tested in diabetic patients, and eating Sinlek brown rice was found to help with diabetes, lowering insulin resistance and improving pancreatic function, as well as lowering the average triglyceride level. In addition, Sinlek has high iron in the grain. This variety has been assessed for iron bioavailability both in the laboratory and in humans, and promoting consumption of Sinlek among school children with iron deficiency was found to make hemoglobin levels tend to rise.
