On 23 June 2026, Thailand's knowledge hub for rice science and research, together with the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and partner networks in both the public and private sectors, held the panel discussion “ONE HEALTH Healthy Rice: From Upstream to Downstream” under the Thailand Research Expo & Symposium 2026 at Lotus 7 Meeting Room, Centara Grand at CentralWorld, Bangkok, to exchange knowledge on research, innovation and developing the value chain of Thailand's healthy rice, from production and processing to consumption that affects people's well-being.
The discussion was honored by Ms. Sirinporn Diewtrakul, Deputy Director of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), who gave a welcome, and Dr. Kritsanapong Keeratikorn, Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council, who presided over the opening. Experts from many fields shared knowledge and experience, including Prof. Maj. Gen. Dr. Ram Rangsin, Faculty of Medicine, Kasetsart University; Prof. Dr. Apichart Vanavichit, Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University; Ms. Nitchaporn Chongudomrerk, CEO & Co-founder of Mod Cut Co., Ltd.; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anusak Kerdsin, Faculty of Public Health, Kasetsart University; Mr. Changnoi Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya, Managing Director of Cloud & Ground Co., Ltd.; Mr. Chutyawet Sinthuphan, co-founder of Thai Rice Hub; and Mr. Phanupon Bulsuwan (Chef Black) of Black Kitchen, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siwaret Arikit, Director of the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, and Prof. Dr. Chanakan Thebault Promuthai, Director of the Lanna Rice Research Center, Chiang Mai University, as moderators.
The forum presented the One Health concept, an approach integrating the health of humans, animals and the environment, through developing and promoting high-quality rice with nutritional value that answers modern consumers' needs, including raising rice genetics research, production technology, food product processing, and adding value to Thai rice to benefit farmers, entrepreneurs and consumers.
Views were also exchanged on health-food market trends, developing rice products in line with consumer demand, and the role of the gut microbiome linked to diet and long-term health, showing the potential of Thai rice to be more than a staple food but an important part of driving people's well-being and quality of life.
This discussion is another important forum linking researchers, education, business and consumers to jointly push Thai rice research and innovation into concrete use, underlining Thailand's role as a leader in research and development of rice for health.
