Soft, sticky fragrant rice
Pin Kaset rice is a cross between Khao Dawk Mali 105 and a drought-tolerant rice. It is white, fragrant, soft and sticky. The brown rice is soft, with grains longer than 8 mm and very clear, and a high head rice percentage when polished. The brown rice has good iron bioavailability, and when cooked together with other rice varieties it raises the bioavailability of iron, with consistent results in both cell-level and human tests. With this property, Pin Kaset rice won 3rd prize at the 2nd World Rice Competition in 2004 (B.E. 2547).
